The Meetings Page has been updated with the Minutes from the first two meetings. If you ever miss a weekly meeting, be sure to check here, because we’ll be posting the minutes after every meeting! The Spring Meeting Minutes have been moved to their own page, so if you’re interested in what we were up to last semester, you can check those out here.
A big thanks to our shiny new secretary, Sarah Haygood, for keeping us up to date!
The Gallery has also been updated with the following images:
September Tailgating
Knights 4 Change Organizational Meeting and DNC Watch Party
I’ve added the pictures from the Kal Penn event to the Gallery. I’ll be working on adding pictures from all of our Summer events over the next few days.
Also, our first meeting of the semester is tomorrow. It’s from 8:00 - 9:00 PM, and the room will be announced as soon as possible. Be sure to come out!
First off, meetings will most likely be every Tuesday at 7 PM during the fall semester! Watch out for Summer meeting times, either here or on the Facebook Group.
I’ve added pics of the shiny new brochures that we’ll be handing out when we table — one for the club in general, and one for Barack. They were made by the always awesome (and your new VP) Ben King, so if you see him, tell him how great they look! You can check them out in the Gallery.
Also, I reorganized the Media Page, creating sub-pages for the different categories of videos we have. That way, there’s not an endless page of random videos. The new categories are:
Club Videos and Slideshows
2008 Elections
Weekly Topics and Issues
SiCKO Health Care Seminar @ UCF
I’ve also found a new (well, new to me) Barack video by Will.I.Am. It’s in the 2008 Elections Section, but I’ll put it here, too.
And, if you’re new to the club and the site, be sure to familiarize yourself with the club by checking out the About Page and the Issues Page. If you want to see what you missed at last semester’s meetings, our Meeting Minutes are compiled in the Meetings Section, which can be found in the left sidebar.
- The Media Page has been updated, with a link to our Youtube, some video clips from the SiCKO Healthcare Seminar we held last semester, and some of the slideshows and videos we’ve made for the club.
So sorry to neglect the site for so long, but things have been busy! The club participated in a Dodgeball Game, hosted by Hard Knocks (a gaming center). We also donated $50 to their “Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament Charity Event”, with the proceeds going to Child’s Play.
In return, they’re letting us bring 30 members to play games or combat simulators for FREE! That’s like a $1000 value, so be sure to thank those that have helped make it possible: VP Sam Sanders and Director of Philanthropy Sarah Martin, as well as our Dodgeball Players, Joey Martino, Ben King, Katie Harrison and Sarah Haygood. Thanks guys!
We also went camping this past weekend, which was awesome! Thanks to all those who came out and special thanks to Jacob Gardner, who organized the whole event.
Our Intramural Sports Team has been doing well and now has a Facebook Group, so definitely check that out and come out and support your Dems!
We also have a couple updates to the Upcoming Events page. There are some more details about the CD vs. CR Debate, as well as Relay for Life. We have our own Dems Relay team, so if you’re interested in joining, check out the Facebook Group.
We also added info on GAYla (the GLBSU Gala), and the early details of our End of the Year Banquet. Keep checking back for more information on that, as well as a link to a Facebook Event Page.
Thanks to everyone who got there and voted! As you probably know, Hillary won the Florida Primary with about 50% of the vote. Unfortunately, Amendment 1 also passed.
But, on to better news. This coming Monday, we’re pleased to announce our first ever Healthcare Seminar, featuring two of the folks from Michael Moore’s SiCKO. So, be sure to come out!
Monday, February 4th
Healthcare Seminar with Dr. Mark Meaney and Donna Smith of SiCKO:
1:00 - 3:00 PM in the Student Union, Cape Florida Room 316 C
“Learn how to get care you deserve when you need it in our corrupt and convoluted Healthcare system.”
ETA: We’re now posting the minutes from our meetings, so if you can’t come out because of class or other commitments, you can now keep up online. For now, they’ll be posted in the News Section.
Not only did we have an awesome turnout at our first meeting, but we’ve also had lots of interested people coming up to our table, signing up for our mailing list or wanting to register to vote. So, this semester’s already shaping up to be better than the last! WHOOOO!
Also, we have our room assignment for this week’s meeting:
1/16/08 -
Student Union, Egmont Key, Room 224
Our weekly topic will be Gay Rights, so if you have anything that you’d like to discuss at the meeting, please come prepared or let one of the officers know. Also, if you’d like to write a Blog Post about the topic, please contact Kris Krause, either on Facebook or at CollegeDemsPhilanthropy@gmail.com.
Some of our upcoming topics include:
The War on Drugs
The Florida Primary
Universal Healthcare
Reproductive Rights for Women
and much more!
Again, if you want to be involved with any of these, please contact us for more information.
Something exciting happened this week, as well. At the table on Thursday, WESH 2 News came out and filmed some footage at our table. They interviewed John, Ben and Sam about the primaries, the candidates and the club in general. We’ll let you know when the piece is supposed to air!
I’ve also updated the Gallery, with pictures from our first meeting.
Everything from the old site (About, Officers, Join, Issues, Links) has been transferred to this new location. We’ve also added a Media page, where we’ll be posting clips and videos for you to watch. The News page will have links to articles or other sites that we think you’ll find interesting. If you’d like to point out any links, videos or news stories that you want to see on the site, just email me at cordyjay@comcast.net.
We’ve also added a Blog, where our officers and members will be writing about current events. Our first blog entry, by our very own Kris Krause, has already been posted, so definitely go check that out!
We also have a fabulous new gallery, where all of our pictures have been relocated. Some of the most recent pictures:
- Tabling Outside the Union (1/8/08)
- Holiday Party (Dec. ‘07)
- Last Meeting of Fall (Dec. ‘07)
- Halloween (Oct. ‘07)
