College Democrats Trip to Washington, D.C.

The College Democrats at UCF recently attended the Democratic National Committee’s Winter Summit in Washington, D.C. on February 4th to the 6th. We were able to take nineteen of our members to the conference, making us one of the largest delegations present at the meeting. It was outstanding that we were able to represent our organization and young people everywhere with such a strong presence. We even got a shout-out from the chair of our state party, Karen Thurman!

While much of the city was running slowly on account of the blizzard cleverly nicknamed "Snowmageddon" our group managed to bring all of our members to the conference each day, including Saturday in which the worst of the storm had made traveling nearly impossible. We attended multiple caucuses including the Southern Caucus in which the UCF College Democrats became the topic of conversation and even given special recognition for our Political Activism within our state. In addition to attending Barack Obama’s general address to the DNC we were also recognized by the Chairman of the National Committee himself, Governor Tim Kaine.

With great expectation we now move into the Spring Semester with plans for attending the Summer Convention for the College Democrats of America, this year rumored to be in Chicago.
