College Democrats Haitian Relief Efforts on Campus
In the aftermath of the tragic 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti in January, the College Democrats at UCF has banded together to take part in a school-wide initiative to aid in Haitian relief efforts. College Democrats Director of Political Activism, Fedorah Philippeaux is one of two Haitians to currently sit on the board of the UCF Haitian Relief Taskforce led by President Hitt.
In collaboration with other faculty and staff, the College Democrats are able to contribute to the current discussion regarding sustained relief efforts and future growth in Haiti. The College Democrats has hosted many events in honor of these relief efforts including an outstandingly successful clothing drive, a canned-food drive, and several donation drives.
A few weeks ago the College Democrats demonstrated their creative side through the creation of a banner in the form of the Haitian flag, which was signed by different members of various student organizations and frats as well as the student body in general. The College Democrats plans to eventually hang this banner in the student union as a reminder to all who pass through the union of the crisis which has hit so many, so close to home.
