Jay Francis Shannon '11, President

Jay Shannon is a Senior in the Political Science Department at UCF. During the Obama Campaign last year Jay found his passion in politics and has been inseparable from the subject ever since. Currently the only non-U.S. Citizen on the Executive Board, Jay prides himself in aiding the voting cause for others with the privilege.

Cortez Whatley '12, Vice President

Cortez is a second year student at UCF, majoring in both Legal Studies and Public Administrations with a minor in Political Science. He aspires to become an attorney specializing in civil rights and liberties. With a deep interest in policies concerning education and welfare, Cortez is currently working as a deputy campaign manager for a candidate running for Orange County Commission. In his free time, Cortez plays basketball, soccer, and plays the guitar. 'Be the change you want to see in this world' --Mahatma Gandhi

Roberto Berrios '11, Treasurer

Roberto is a Senior majoring in Political Science and minoring in Legal Studies. He joined the College Democrats in the Fall of 2009 and has been an active member ever since. He looks forward to the upcoming midterm elections so that the College Democrats can continue to support candidates committed to President Obama's agenda for change. After he graduates, he will go to law school. His interests include civil rights and constitutional law. He has ambitions of one day running for public office. "You can't fail until you try."

Dominique Gelin '12, Director of Political Activism

The 2010-2011 school year will mark Dom's third year at UCF and the College Democrats. Her Freshman year, she was completely taken with the Obama campaign and has been politically active ever since. As we approach the coming election cycle, she feels the goal is to make sure we garner the same energy and the same momentum we had then and harness it into our midterm elections in the fall. To do this, Dom will continue to lead our Political Task Force. She is absolutely certain that the coming months will bring new leaders to light. To put it simply: she's pumped. And her goal is to get you as excited as she is about activism and make sure that, together, we are able to propel our organization to a level of productivity and cooperation that will move us forward in leaps and bounds.

Ali Kurnaz '13, Director of Internal Communications

Ali is a Political Science major on the International Relations track. Born a first generation Turkish-American, he grew up in Orlando and graduated high school with recognition in community service. Web design became one of his hobbies at an early age. Ali can speak English, Turkish, Azeri, and some Arabic, Turkmen, and Spanish. His first commitment to the Democratic Party was to help get Barack Obama elected into office. Priding himself as a peace activist, Ali is passionate about several international causes, especially Palestinian human rights, all of which he promotes through the various organizations he works with.

Lindsey Wellington '12, Director of Public Relations

Lindsey Wellington is a Junior at UCF majoring in Political Science. She began working in politics with the Steve Barnes campaign and quickly joined the Seminole County DEC. Lindsey wants to see the great state of Florida blue again and raise political awareness with students on campus and across the state. The upcoming midterm elections are the perfect opportunity for this to happen and Lindsey is looking forward to using her position as the Director of Public Relations to help the College Democrats succeed. "I'm ready to join you in changing the course that we're on by bringing a new generation of leadership to the United States of America." –Barack Obama

Jessica Swerdlow '12, Secretary

Jessica Swerdlow is a Junior majoring in History with minors in Middle East Studies and Political Science. She first joined the College Democrats in Fall of 2009 when she began an internship with the Kendrick Meek campaign. Jessica enjoys watching MSNBC, reading and working towards become bilingual or trilingual in English, Hebrew, and possibly Arabic in the future. She is fascinated by Israeli politics and hopes to work in that arena after graduation. She is very excited for the 2010 election season because of all the fantastic candidates that we will be working with, and because she will be able to exercise her right to vote for the first time.

Patrick Hynes '11, Sargeant at Arms

Patrick "The Enforcer" Hynes is a Junior majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Mathematics. He joined the club in the Fall of 2009 and has been active ever since. When he is not off working hard in the lab, he devotes time to ensure that the club's meetings run as smoothly as possible. His future plans include the possibility of graduate school and a certainty of political involvement.
