Annual Banquet Dinner

Last weekend the College Democrats of UCF met for one last time this semester, at our annual banquet to live it up as we said farewell to our seniors heading off to bigger and better things around the country and even across continents. The joyful yet teary eyed experience was nothing short of an amazing night full of embarrassing music and most importantly, free food—all of which was orchestrated by our own Fedorah Phillipeaux.

Whether this was the severe tongue lashing friends had dished out and received by those conducting the roast of our esteemed officers—that yours truly was a part of—or the more heartfelt slide show—put together by David Mariutto that let us reminisce over the many events of the year, our fellow Democrats truly made it a night to remember.

Seeing all of the fun times we had in Washington, D.C.—even with the blizzard, or canvassing for all of our favorite local candidates, such as Kendrick Meek's Senate race or Amy Mercado's tough race for UCF's district—we were all able to look back at the year and see that what we did made a huge difference and were definitely deserving of the Florida College Democrats' "Chapter of the Year" award.

Even so, all of these events paled in comparison to the culmination of the night when our new executive board was able to give our old officers a proper farewell—and presents!—signaling the transition to a new era. The club also made it a point to recognize the members, who weren’t officers, that made the biggest difference to our group even when they didn't have to. Therefore, we'd like to recognize Officer of the Year, Cortez Whatley; College Democrat of the Year, Dominique Gelin; our Unsung Hero, Jessie Gerena; and Most Likely to be a Leader in the Democratic Party, Ross Harrison. When all of it was said and done the night ended with an amazing cupid shuffle right out the door marking a great ending to the year and an even greater indicator of the year to come.
