Turn America Green

America can be the 21st century clean energy leader by harnessing the power of alternative and renewable energy, ending our addiction to foreign oil, addressing the global climate crisis, and creating millions of new jobs that can't be shipped overseas.

Green and other well known alternative energy resources has been the subject of the Democratic Party’s platform for years. Despite the significant few who continue to ignore the overwhelming data supporting global climate change the United States has begun the process of paving a new way forward with regards to creating a more sustainable global environment.

Our leadership is bold; as our solutions answer both the competing claims for Economic and Environmental sustainability. We Democrats commit to a fast-track investment of billions of dollars over the next ten years to establish a green energy sector that will create up to five million jobs. This transition to a clean-energy industry will also benefit low-income communities: we'll create an energy-focused youth job program to give disadvantaged youth job skills for this emerging industry.

With the election of President Barack Obama and the most significant Democratic Majorities in both the House and the Senate seen in decades Green Energy Reform and Legislation is finally a reality.

In the first time in over a decade the Fuel Economy Standards set for the model 2011 year have been raised to a more robust set of restriction promising new more fuel efficient model vehicle selection for years to come.

We’ve passed H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

In doing so we’ve taken the critical first steps in closing the corporate loopholes allowing so much pollution to seep through former regulations; while creating a government regulated eco-market where pollution rights will begin to decrease at a rate our economy can adjust with.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included more than $80 billion in clean energy investments that will jump-start our economy and build the clean energy jobs of tomorrow:

  • $11 billion for a bigger, better, and smarter grid that will move renewable energy from the rural places it is produced to the cities where it is mostly used, as well as for 40 million smart meters to be deployed in American homes.
  • $5 billion for low-income home weatherization projects.
  • $4.5 billion to green federal buildings and cut our energy bill, saving taxpayers billions of dollars.
  • $6.3 billion for state and local renewable energy and energy efficiency efforts.
  • $600 million in green job training programs – $100 million to expand line worker training programs and $500 million for green workforce training.
  • $2 billion in competitive grants to develop the next generation of batteries to store energy.
