Don’t Skirt the Issue

| Don’t SKIRT the Issue is a campaign that encourages women and men to SPEAK OUT
about violence against women. If you have any pillowcases just find me and I will
drop them off. Hopefully we can have another event soon
to benefit this great cause!

I normally dread buying textbooks, but this makes me a feel a little better about it.
Better World Books. This company rescues old library books
(5 million pounds of paper– in fact). Then they try to find new homes for these books via online
sales and through Amazon. They then donate some of the profits to non-profits who focus on
eliminating illiteracy ( 1.3 millon dollars, to be specific).
I bought 3 of my textbooks through them this year (all way cheaper than the bookstore).
Wierdly enough they also ship pretty fast and carry a TON of different books all in great condition.
It’s something to think about next time you need a book for a class or for leisure.

Plant a Billion Trees:
http://www.plantabillion.org/
$1 plants 1 tree!!!
The trees will be planted by Conservancy staff and partners working in The Atlantic Forest of Brazil.
The Atlantic Forest is considered one of the world’s most endangered tropical forests — only 7% of
its original area remains.
Tropical forests like this one play a particularly special role in the fight to end global climate change.
And this reforestation effort to Plant a Billion Trees in The Atlantic Forest will remove 10 million
tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year — that’s like taking 2 million cars off the road.
